Director's Message

Mr. Charles O. Streeter
CTE Director
Career Technical Education (CTE) provides students with the academic and technical skills, knowledge, and training necessary to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners. CTE programs are ever changing to meet the country’s education and skill needs. These programs are creating an educational environment that combines core academics with real-world application. It can help students gain key skills to get a job after graduation. It’s also a great way to explore career options and meet the people who work in those particular areas.
The Leflore County Career and Technical Education Center (LCCTEC) has the responsibility of administering six (6) programs. The three (3) programs housed on the LCCTEC include Automotive Service Technology, Carpentry, and Health Sciences. The following three (3) programs are housed on the Amanda Elzy High School campus: Information Technology, Teacher Academy, and Law & Public Safety. Our students come from the campuses of Amanda Elzy High School and Leflore County High School.
Our motto here at the LCCTEC is “We are Family”. This is often students’ first chance to take a class with someone from a different high school. Although friendly rivalries are expected in sports, here at the LCCTEC, we are one team. Respect and cooperation is expected. Examples of former students are exemplified in the adult staff. Amanda Elzy graduates include: Preston Brownlow (Carpentry), LaKenda Price (CTE Counselor), and Shirley Speight (Secretary). Leflore High graduates include: Cassandria Hansbrough (Teacher Academy), Kathy Robie (Law & Public Safety), Eugene Davis (Automotive Service Technology), and Gregory McGee (Information Technology). We recruit and hire our own.
A second way of achieving respect and cooperation are our organizations. SkillsUSA, HOSA, and Educator Rising are reinforcement tools used by the staff. Three programs are also converting to national certification, Automotive Service Technology, Information Technology, and Carpentry.
